One of the main tenants I try to live my life by is to follow curiosity into the pursuit of knowledge. For me, that’s led to the best books, the most interesting people, & the coolest journeys. So when Keep Curious Co., a small production company dedicated to creating educational entertainment, approached me to create a logo & identity for their budding business, I was ecstatic!
In order to start things off with a bang, Keep Curious Co.’s founder had bought a camper van to road-trip across the Southwest United States, stopping at every roadside attraction, ghost town, & interesting pit stop along the way to share what he discovered with KCC fans. Being located out of Denver, there was also an emphasis on location-based history.
I set out to create a logo, design 4 monoline symbols to embody the biggest aspects of Keep Curious Co., write a mission statement, select a 2-tone color palette, & pick out a font pairing in order to give KCC the tools they needed to be successful.
While exploring the identity of the brand, we found the most poignant symbol to represent the spark of curiosity to be a lightbulb, which has long stood as the physical representation of new ideas. A bright yellow against a dark background drove home the “light in the dark” theme of learning something new.
In order to reinforce these Southwestern themes, I chose typefaces that elicited a Wild West feel while bearing round, friendly shapes in order to evoke an inviting approachability.
With the mission statement, I aimed to express the heart of the company, while explaining how they carried out their mission, both in terms of current offerings as well as aspirational offerings. This allowed Keep Curious Co. to express their core values to fans & have room to grow as they develop additional revenue streams.
As for the monoline symbols, I created designs that would be ideal representations for snapshots that they could use on their social media “stories” features. We found the most fitting themes to be history, Southwest, Denver, & van life, which I expressed with a lightbulb, cowboy boot, mountain at sunrise, & van.
With the digital assets I had created for them as well as the color palette & font selection, Keep Curious Co. was on their way to becoming an authority figure in the edutainment space. They were able to set up professional-looking social media accounts & brand their videos in order to advertise their company wherever the video was posted. From starting at a follower count of 0 to gaining nearly 30,000 subscribers in short time & to being approached by 3rd parties to partner with in the influencer space, they are making their mark!
