As the Marketing Director for G-Que BBQ, I frequently reached out to local social media influencers in order to collaborate with them to promote our business.
I implemented an Influencer Outreach Protocol with standardized messaging in order to efficiently handle communication with a number of local accounts. This allowed me to maintain a high level of professionalism & to create a standardized system for nurturing positive business relationships. It also helped me to transfer responsibilities & set operating procedures for another marketing team member to handle local accounts.
When dealing with instant messaging via social media, it’s important to keep messages short & friendly. Social media platforms rely on instant gratification, so nobody wants to read a multi-paragraph message, whereas lengthy messages are expected when using email. If a long message is necessary in order to get a point across, it’s best to break the response into several messages, or to wait until the respondent sends some sort of confirmation before sending the next piece of information. Since the person on the other end of the conversation can’t read body language or tone of voice in the messages, a good strategy to convey emotion is to use emojis & insert punctuation appropriate for the mood such as exclamation points when relaying excitement!
Hi! 👋 Your content is great & I always love when your posts show up in my feed. Would you be interested in doing a collab with us?
Yeah, for sure! What were you thinking in terms of working together?
We’d love to schedule a visit with you where we comp your meals then set you up with a digital gift card to give away to your followers.
Does that setup work for you? If so, just let me know what date(s) you have in mind for a visit!
Right on- I’ve got some time next Saturday at 2 PM if you’re available. How do you want to do the giveaway?
Perfect! We’ll comp your meal(s), then will be able to set you up with 2, $25 gift cards or 1, $50 gift card to give away to your followers.
🎁 For the giveaway parameters, we ask that you require entrants to follow our page & visit the link in our bio if they want to get a free pulled pork sandwich. Just let us know the full name + email of whoever wins, & we’ll email a digital gift card over to them!
Works for me!
Good business relationships are all about the followup! A few days before the influencer’s visit, I’d check in to remind them of their scheduled date/time & to set expectations so they’d feel comfortable upon arrival.
Hi [name]! Just wanted to follow up with you on your upcoming visit on [date] at [time]. When you get here, just ask to talk to the manager & either [name] or [name] will greet you!
Cool- see ya then!
If visit went well, I’d then invite the influencer for a 2nd visit to try our ice cream at The Ice Cream Farm, an ice cream counter inside of G-Que’s Lone Tree location.
Hey! I just wanted to say THANK YOU for stopping in! We’ve gotten incredible engagement from your posts. 🧡
So glad to hear that! Thanks for having me.
Let me know if you want to do an ice cream visit with the Ice Cream Farm inside our Lone Tree location this [date]!
We can plan some fun shake/sundae videos & send you home with pints to-go of your favorites as well as a gift card if you’d like to do another giveaway.
Sounds great! I’ll follow up next week & we can work something out.
Awesome!
PS- My email is Lauren@GQueBBQ.com if you ever want to collab via email.
Thanks! Honestly, I don’t think our brands are aligned, but I appreciate the outreach.
